Finding the Right Girl by Violet Duke

Finding the Right Girl

A Nice GUY to Love Spin-off

By: Violet Duke

Blurb

From the New York Times & USA Today bestselling author who brought you the Nice Girl to Love trilogy, comes A Nice GUY to Love spin-off...
Brian Sullivan has been in love twice in his lifetime. He lost his first love to early-onset Huntington’s, and he lost the other more recently…to his brother. And somehow, his heart has managed to heal itself after both. Amazingly, without therapy. That doesn’t mean he hasn’t gotten a bit more cautious, however. Lately, Brian’s been thinking that maybe his brother’s now retired nothing-but-flings rule isn’t such a bad idea after all. Unfortunately, as the unofficial nice guy poster boy, Brian isn’t exactly versed in the fine art of flings. So he looks to the outrageously ‘unique,’ inexplicably enigmatic, provokingly button-pushing Tessa Daniels for a crash course.

There’s absolutely no way he’s falling in love with this one...right?

Tessa has no idea what she was thinking telling Brian that she was some sort of fling expert. She’s never been flung before and she sure as heck doesn’t know where or how to begin flinging a guy like Brian. It was a temporary lapse in sanity—no doubt because of the can’t-help-but-fall-for-him brain fuzz that hits her whenever he’s around. Not only does the man have her being more herself than she’s ever been in her life, but he’s the only person she knows who seems to have as many demons and skeletons in the closet as she does. What’s more, he’s got her thinking of the one thing she stopped letting herself even hope for years ago.

A happily ever after.

Excerpt
"Babe, we have to stop.  You're hurting and your emotions have gone through the wringer tonight.  I can't take advantage of you like that."

"Then don't,” she replied simply, wrapping her arms around his neck.  “Let me take advantage of you.”

Jerking back to put some head-clearing distance between them was about as painful as ripping off his own skin.  “Why don’t we just hang out tonight?  We can sit and talk more about those dickheads we ran into tonight if it’ll help, or we could just watch a movie…anything you want to do."

He quickly snatched her wandering hands as they traveled down his lats and started tugging at the hem of his t-shirt.  "Anything except that," he groaned.  "Work with me here, woman."  Raggedly, he put his forehead against hers and counted to ten to try and find the tattered remains of his restraint.

The thought almost made him laugh.  Who was he kidding?  He had no restraint when it came to Tessa.  By the fifth second, his lips had already found their way back to hers.

And goddammit if her whole body didn’t just tremble right there in his arms.

She was just so mind-wreckingly responsive.  As usual, without even trying, she was driving him batshit crazy.

Tapping into a reserve even he didn’t know he had, he broke off the kiss and took another step away from her.  Then he watched in sad disbelief as her expression became completely shuttered a half an instant later—closing him out behind the walls of a now ten-story castle and a moat filled with fire-breathing piranhas.

The lightning quick response time of her defenses was a punch to his gut.  What the hell happened in her past?

"Look Brian, if you don't want to, you can just tell me you know.  I’m a big girl; you don't have to make excuses to let me down easy—"

He gave her a look that said he wondered about her IQ before grabbing her hand and dragging it over the zipper of his jeans.  "Does that feel like I don't want to?"

Her eyes widened, and her grip closed tight around him.

Bourbon soaked shards of glass went hissing down his throat.  "For chrissakes, stop."  The blood supply in his brain was dipping down to a dangerous low.

And the damn temptress was clearly all torn up about it.  He glared at the smile she was biting back.  “I’m glad you find this so amusing.”

“It’s not amusement, it’s relief.  Here I was thinking it was just me getting affected with my perpetually wet panties around you and all."

A seriously pained groan escaped him then.  "To preserve my sanity—and your panties—don’t use the word wet in any more sentences tonight."

She sighed.  "I don't know why you're making such a big deal out of this.  You heard Troy earlier this evening.  Being the ‘good girl’ was never my thing."  She brushed up against the hardening ridge tenting his jeans to drive home her point.

With a muttered curse, he clamped one arm around her waist and tangled his free hand in her hair.  "Sweetheart, this thing between us is a big deal," he said roughly, tugging gently on her hair and nearly losing it when she arched her back in response.  Her fitted tee was so paper-frickin’-thin.  One sharp yank was all it’d take to rip it right down the middle.

Jesus Christ, he needed to find some control.

"Tessa, when, and yes I said when we have sex, I’ll make damn sure that every single second of it seeps into your bones, burns into your memory, and turns into a relentless craving that makes you forget all the assholes from your past,” he ran his lips along the thrumming pulse at her throat, “and if I’m really lucky, it’ll also help ruin you for all other men completely."

Book Review: Susy Asylum by Michael Pierce

SUSY Asylum (Lorne Family Vault #2)
by Michael Pierce
Blurb
In SUSY Asylum, there is no release. There is no escape. No hope.

Oliver and Desiree are introduced to the writings of a mysterious blogger, Commodore Chaos, when
they return to Provex City to indulge in what the sublime city has to offer. The blogger claims the Lornes are collecting people venturing between the higher planes of awareness and locking them away in a mythical asylum. But are these legitimate concerns for inter-plane travelers or just the ramblings of an anonymous conspiracy blogger?

Oliver looks to Provex City as his only connection to his father while Desiree looks to the city as an escape from the torment of losing her best friend—again. Provex City is a wonder of beautiful treasures, entrancing them to continue returning. But behind the beauty, wolves have continued hunting Oliver, a boy who is still unaware of his importance in the rebellion.

Oliver’s belief is waning. Desiree will not always be by his side. Mr. Gordon will not always come to his aid. Oliver finds himself alone, forced to confront his biggest fears, fight his inner demons, and face the very cold reality that no one is coming to save him.

Welcome to SUSY Asylum.

Review
Susy Asylum is the second in a series that began with Provex City. In the first book, Michael Pierce does a fantastic job giving Oliver a voice that really draws the reader into his life so I was excited to get more from him. Just like the first book, Susy Asylum  leaves you with a ton of questions that you just can't wait to have answered, so I'll definitely be picking up book three (well played, Mr. Pierce, well played).

The world building in this series is fantastic - every detail is thoughtful and well-described and you can't help but being drawn into Provex City and feeling like you're right there with Oliver and Desiree as the grow as characters throughout their journey. And what a journey! Susy Asylum picks up just a few weeks after Provex City ends, but it takes a darker turn than the first book and parts of it do leave you feeling raw (in a good way).

I give this one 4 cupcakes out of 5!

About Michael Pierce
I believe in a future where I will be able to write full-time, a picture I already hold vividly in my mind. It all starts with my debut young adult novel, Provex City. I love Harry Potter & The Marbury Lens, Tool & Elliott Smith, Dexter & Donnie Darko, bold coffee & amber ale. I also love dabbling with writing music and recording, with no illusions of ever making it a career. I am ecstatically married and the lucky father to a beautiful baby girl.

Guest Post: Jame Baywood, author of Getting Rooted in New Zealand

Getting Rooted in New Zealand
Jamie Baywood

Craving change and lacking logic, at 26, Jamie, a cute and quirky Californian, impulsively moves to New Zealand to avoid dating after reading that the country's population has 100,000 fewer men. In her journal, she captures a hysterically honest look at herself, her past and her new wonderfully weird world filled with curious characters and slapstick situations in unbelievably bizarre jobs. It takes a zany jaunt to the end of the Earth and a serendipitous meeting with a fellow traveler before Jamie learns what it really means to get rooted.

Getting Rooted in New Zealand is available in paperback and ebook on Amazon

Guest Post
It was always my dream to live abroad when I was growing up in California.  I had bad dating experiences in California and read in a New Zealand tour book that the country’s population at 100,000 fewer men than women.  I wanted to have some me time and an adventure. New Zealand seemed like a good place to do so. Although I intended to have a solo adventure I ended up meeting my husband in New Zealand.

I consider myself an accidental author. I didn’t go to New Zealand with the intentions of writing a book about my experiences there. I had funny experiences that I had trouble believing were true. I wrote the stories down to stay sane. I wrote situations down that were happening around me and shared them with friends. The stories made people laugh so I decided to organize the stories into a book and publish in the hopes to make others laugh too.

One of the first people I meet was Colin Mathura-Jeffree from New Zealand’s Next Top Model. I had no idea who he was or that he was on TV when I meet him. He is friends with my former flatmate. We had a steep staircase that I kept falling down. Colin taught me to walk like a model so I wouldn’t fall down the stairs.

In New Zealand, I had a lot of culture shock.  One of the most memorable moments was learning the meaning of the Kiwi slang word “rooted.” One night I was brushing my teeth with my flatmate and I said, ‘I’m really excited to live in this house because I have been travelling a lot and I just need to settle down, stop traveling and get rooted’. He was choking on his toothbrush and asked me if I knew what that meant because it had a completely different meaning New Zealand than it does in the States.

I had the opportunity to write and perform for Thomas Sainsbury the most prolific playwright in New Zealand. I performed a monologue about my jobs in the Basement Theatre in Auckland.  The funny thing about that experience was Tom kept me separated from the other performers until it was time to perform. I was under the impression that all the performers were foreigners giving their experiences in New Zealand.  All of the other performers were professional actors telling stories that weren’t their own. At first I was mortified, but the audience seemed to enjoy my “performance,” laughing their way through my monologue. After the shows we would go out and mingle with the audience. People would ask me how long I had been acting. I would tell them, “I wasn’t acting; I have to go to work tomorrow and sit next to the girl wearing her dead dog’s collar around her neck.”

I love making people laugh more than anything else. I feel very grateful when readers understand my sense of humor. I plan to divide my books by the countries I’ve lived in. My next book will be about attempting to settle in Scotland.

Jamie Baywood grew up in Petaluma, California. In 2010, she made the most impulsive decision of her life by moving to New Zealand. Getting Rooted in New Zealand is her first book about her experiences living there. Jamie is now married and living happily ever after in the United Kingdom. She is working on her second book.

After Thomas had gone to bed and Alex sat down to do some work for the first time in days, Alex opened up his First Year Seminar lesson plan and felt a little jolt of panic but also excitement as he realized that he would see Cate in class the very next day.

It would be the first class since their night together and Alex was suddenly terrified.  Would it be awkward?  Would the other students be able to tell that there was something going on?  What if Cate had already bragged to all of her girlfriends and he was about to lose his job?  She didn’t seem like the type of girl who would do that, but what did he really know about her?  Suddenly this seemed like a huge mistake.

Alex paced back and forth in his study (one step in each direction) as he contemplated what to do.  Before long, the only solution became completely obvious – he had to see her.  It was late, well after eleven, and she might be studying or asleep.  He pictured her in her dorm room, on a bunk bed, in the same white cotton thong she’d been wearing the other night, and he quickly stopped caring whether or not he was disturbing her because he really needed to see her.  He fired off a quick text: Come over if you’re up.

The doorbell rang a half hour later.  He was completely pleased by his power to beckon her.  Alex had no interest in being with a woman who could ever say no to him.  They grinned at each other dumbly for a minute in the doorway; all Alex wanted was to touch her.  “Did I wake you?” he asked as she entered the apartment and he shut the door behind her.

“Oh, no, I was just hanging out in a friend’s room.”

They looked at each other again.  Suddenly it seemed like they had nothing to say to one another.  “Are you okay?” Alex asked, taking one step closer to her.  She was so petite that he looked straight down into her eyes.  “You look uneasy.”

She looked up at him and didn’t say anything at first, though she managed to communicate so much with her eyes.  Alex felt the weight of her gaze on him; it was as if she was transferring all of her love and trust onto him with that look.  Finally, they both spoke, interrupting the silence at the same time.  In a small voice, almost a whisper, Cate said, “I’m just nervous,” just as Alex said, “You can trust me.”

Book Tour: Everlasting Hunger by Brandy Dorsch

Temptation, thy name is Ian Lochlan.

That was the thought running through Ellie Dawson's head when her boss offered to escort her to a local vampire bar. Who would suspect that it was owned by him and that he would be the one to introduce her to all the pleasures of a vampire's kiss? Passion is a different beast when vampires are involved and Ellie faces love from two very sensual creatures. Tragedy strikes and Ian relinquishes her into the arms of his best friend - Jasper. Ellie struggles with the feelings aroused in her by both men but she knows nothing can stop the Hunger.

Can she survive loving two men and the past that continues to haunt her?

Excerpt

Kissing her on the forehead, he says in a rough voice, “You are sin, Ellie and we might as well do it right.”

He leans down and begins to kiss her, teasing her lips with little nibbles asking for entrance. Ellie opens her lips and sighs as Jasper deepens the kiss. Tugging the pins from her hair so it cascades over his hands, he reaches for the clasp of the dress at the base of her neck. He pulls both her dress and bra down to her waist leaving her breasts exposed to the cool air. Instantly they pucker and strain toward the sexy vampire that was devouring her mouth like a thirsty man. Bringing his hands up to grasp her breasts, Jasper begins to pull and pinch the nipples almost to the point of pain then sooths the peaks with a gentle stroke of his thumbs. Ellie groans with the pleasure of Jasper’s touch and arches into his hands begging for more.

Pulling back from her lips, he looks down, sees the glazed look of passion on her face, and is envious of Ian at having the passion of this luscious woman.

How you created your vampire characters to stand out from others of the same genre.
Wonderful question and thank you so much for allowing me to hang out with you and talk about Everlasting Hunger!  If it is one thing that I have been told about my vampires, it is that they are different.  For the longest time, vampires have been portrayed as solidary characters and they could be evil masterminds or awesome loners.  With the recent trend of vamps, I noticed that they all seem to be craving a soul mate that was completely theirs.  They can’t live without that one person that completes them.
Personally, that drives me nuts.  Vampires all start out as humans (for the most part, depends on where your legend comes from) and we are social creatures.  It just seems odd to think that they will only want one person for the rest of their immortal lives.  I wanted my characters to step outside of the “normal” way vampires interact.
That being said, my vamps are a little risqué.  They bond but they are open in their sexuality and their partners.  Their bonding is on a fundamental level that excludes the emotion of jealousy.  Sounds strange I know but I like being a little different.  They don’t care about social drinking from someone else or even sex.  Love knows no boundaries with them and I love how they can love multiple people.  The bond between the couple is something so deep that goes beyond just a sexual encounter.  It is a connection that is so unique and powerful that it can never be severed.
Thank you again for letting me visit!  I love to hear from readers so feel free to connect with me on my author page!  www.brandydorsch.com

Review

If you're looking for sparkly, girly vampires, you're not going to find them here. Everlasting Hunger is a real vampire novel and it is hot! If you're a fan of the Anita Blake books, you will love this and even if you're not, you should give it a try. Brandy is a wonderful author and I was drawn into the story from the very first sentence. The characters grabbed me and made me absolutely love (or absolutely love to hate) them. I recommend picking this one as a sort of nontraditional, sexy Halloween read. You won't be sorry.

Brandy lives in North Dakota and dreams of running away and being an extra on The Vampire Diaries. She is a diehard reader that can't breathe without adding something to her TBR list. She loves anything romance but has a special place in her heart for all things vampire related. She works and goes to school but her favorite activity is spending time with her husband and two sons. Author Info
I've been a fan of all kinds of dark creatures since I was a kid (even before I discovered Stephen King at the age of 10). If it crawls in the night and tugs at your covers while you're sleeping, chances are I've written about it. It's probably no surprise that I'm a big fan of old buildings, urban exploring and things that go bump in the night. Oh, and Halloween, of course -- but that should go without saying.
Growing up, I wanted to be Indiana Jones. I ended up not pursuing a degree in Archaeology (although I toyed with the idea for a while) but I did become a huge lover of travel and history. Aside from traveling to all corners of the world, I've also lived in five countries in three continents -- including three years in Siberia and two in Vietnam. I'm currently living in Thailand.
I have a soft spot for animals (which is why you can be sure that in my stories, the dog will always make it) and right now have three wonderful -- but slightly crazy -- dogs in my life. And yes, they move with me from country to country. Too bad dogs can't accumulate frequent flyer miles!
In my other life, I also write nonfiction: articles, books, and even quizzes for the Discovery Channel website. I really can't help it -- I'm a nerd at heart and love research and discovering new things. Could be the Indiana Jones in me pushing me along.
When it comes to life, I'm pretty fearless. I figure life is too short to live it too safely -- so I take risks and I try to have fun, whether that means snowshoeing in the middle of Siberia or going ghost-hunting in an abandoned asylum. And yes, I've done both.
